Journal 8

Compose a brief response to the following statement: Individual literacies are directly connected to social literacies.
It’s very true that individual literacies are directly connected to social literacies. One person doing something can easily start a trend. For example, going green. People who understand what is happening to our planet took action and tried to help spread the word that going green is the only way to go if we want our planet to survive. When we read something in the paper, or see something on TV that makes us realize that mother earth is in trouble, we are more likely to take action, especially one we know how easy it is. Going green is as simple as turning off the light when you leave a room, not letting water run for longer than needed, and unplugging things that won’t be used while we are out. One person’s hope to make the world a better place will eventually happen because going green is going to catch on at some point.

Reflection
I think that journal 8 was important because it made us think about our literacies as individuals, and how they relate to society. We each have our own literacy, but when you put a bunch of us together, one person’s literacy, as I defined it as being knowledgeable about something can make a difference for another person’s literacy, like going green.
